OttawaLocal started with a simple frustration: when you search for a business in Ottawa, you get a wall of sponsored results, outdated listings, and generic review platforms that treat every city the same. We wanted something different — a directory built specifically for Ottawa, run by people who know the city's neighbourhoods, its rhythms, and its communities.
We're an Ottawa-based team that manually reviews and curates the businesses listed on this site. We're not a Silicon Valley startup optimizing for engagement metrics. We're local, we're independent, and we care about helping Ottawa residents find quality businesses in their own neighbourhoods.

Any Ottawa business owner can submit their listing for free using our online form. Our team reviews each submission to confirm it's a legitimate local business before it goes live. We check that the address is real, the category is accurate, and the description is genuine.
We do not charge for basic listings. We do not remove negative reviews in exchange for payment. We do not fabricate ratings. Businesses that want greater visibility can purchase a Featured Listing or Banner Ad — but the content of every listing, paid or free, must meet the same editorial standards.
We also actively research and add businesses we discover in our own community — restaurants we've visited, services we've used, shops we've browsed. When we add a business ourselves, we label it accordingly and reach out to the owner to verify details.
